Spiced Apple and Plum Weaning Recipe

I have used warming cinnamon in this recipe for a festive feel!

Ingredients

3 dessert (eating) apples such as Cox or Braeburn 3 ripe plums 50ml water 2 small pinches ground cinnamon

Method

1)    Peel, core and cut the apples into chunks. 2)    Wash the plums, remove the stones and cut into eighths. 3)    Place the apples in a saucepan with the water and cinnamon, stir and cover with a lid. 4)    Bring to the boil then immediately reduce to a gentle simmer for 5 minutes. 5)    Add the plums to the saucepan, stir and continue to simmer for a further 5 minutes. 6)    Remove from the heat and puree gently in a blender. (For an older baby you could simply mash with a fork, but you may wish to remove the skins from the plums if doing this.)

Tips

This can be served on its own as a fruit puree for a young baby, or is delicious as a topping for baby porridge or muesli. To make a creamy dessert, stir in some natural yoghurt just before serving. This freezes well in ice cube trays or small pots.   If you want some more inspiration, we have plenty more weaning recipes available!
